Books

As if these old books weren’t dry
Enough, the book burners of the
World pour kerosene on the pages
Of wisdom they ignored and hate,
All the holy books of every faith,
Philosophy, poetry, art, fiction,
Nonsense, and sense. The fragrant
Smoke reminds of the unsuccessful
Conclaves of now, the pope chosen
By the emperor of the fascist state,
Not by those who still dare to believe.
But there are still some hidden corners
In the world where books find their
Sanctuary; behind shelves of food,
Deep in the caves where humankind
First came from, concealed dark
Directories of local and wide area
Networks. If you want the words,
And need them, you’ll still find them.
