Onomatopoeia

With her bladed whip in
Hand, the muscles in her
Arm tense for the next blow,
It amused her that
Onomatopoeia
Was a distraction from
The pain she was inflicting
On his naked back, and
From the patterns of blood
She drew from each one of
Them as she punished them
For their sins against her kind,
And when they finally expired,
The thwack of the whip replaced
By the thud of the soil on
What was left of them. It
Made her smile, this play
Of words and sounds.
