Past The Edge Lands

Right now, we’re in the borders of
The unreasonable, where recent
Modernity hasn’t prepared us for
The realities of the extremes we’ve
Only witnessed as historic artefacts,
Things we don’t want to forget
But need to be reminded of.

There’s a question about what’s
Out there, yonder, past the edge
Lands, where we think human
Kindness might draw back at
The very last moment from contempt
And murder, and the reasonable
People rise irresistibly. But it’s
A cycle, this, and one day it
Will stop turning.
