Pragmatism

Pragmatism

To have stopped walking, to
Not even have started walking,
Because of the cold and the rain,
And no umbrella, and no raincoat,
With darkness coming, would have
Been pragmatism. It wouldn’t
Have been real life, though, driven
By the need, before mobile phones and
Messaging, and without a fixed
Phone, to speak in person, to hold
Hands, to touch, to enjoy the
Illicit love they had. Not to have
Had the affair would have been
Even more pragmatic, and the
Ending wouldn’t have been unhappy.
