Skewered

He’s never seen one in real life,
But when he watches her, on the
Raised ground overlooking the market,
He imagines her as a heron, patient
In one place, one pose, waiting for her
Prey to surface without even having
Baited it. Though sometimes he thinks
To see the odd blouse hanging differently
From her tall shoulders, revealing just
A little more of her unknown body to
The world around her. Those are the
Days on which she traps him and
Skewers him with a single look to
Leave him breathless.

My second heron today. I can always count on you to make something moving.
