Poetry

The Monthly Cycle

Once a month, she tries to steal
The moon, climbs to the top of
The tallest tree in her forest, as
Naked as she was born, and
Makes a grab for it with her
Bare hands. She reasons that
It can’t stay that far away
Forever, that sooner or later
It will drift into her orbit and
Her reach, and she’ll be able to
Drag it out of the sky to always
Light her cave with. The stars
Can surely live without it.
