The Sky

The Sky

What hasn’t visibly changed
Is the night sky, the phases
Of the moon beyond the
Unreliable clouds, universe
Turning in the state of decay
It was made with.

He has lost his youth under
Those stars, wandering without
Him in some parallel existence,
Days of exuberance and
Fleeting pain, where nothing
Mattered.

That estranged twin of his
Makes the occasional visit,
At unguarded moments,
In sleep, at the end of dreams
When they’re at their most real,
To torture him with the
Lightheartedness of what was.

But even the sky changes.
