Trade

Trade

They crowd around their own ambitions,
Dress them up as ideals for country and
People, eyes and mind on the prize for
Themselves, discounting the price the
Country will pay for going back to
The 1940s.

Hammer and tong speeches, promises
To reindustrialise the wastelands of
Forgetting, when those industries will
Have no-one to trade their products to,
Europe now further away than Canada,
America, Australia, Rest Of World.

The soul of a nation doesn’t live in a
Monocultural ghetto. The soul of a
Nation doesn’t breathe wrapped in
A nationalist flag. The soul of any
Nation lies in all the people it welcomes
To live on land it is always the guardian
And never the owner of.
