Asylum

There will be no light today.
We lie at the top of the cliff
To watch the shadows drift in to shore.

As soon as we hear the small boats
Ground on the beach, we drop
Down the face of this land’s edge to help

These seekers for asylum to find their
Rightful place in this ill-chosen
Country, away from the conflict makers,

Away from the haters and liars
Who believe the law doesn’t apply to
Them, and who make this sanctuary hell.

There will be one light today;
New people, new blood, multiculture.
