Music

#NewMusicFriday 09/08/2024

I was glad to be able to escape – sort of – from the real world for the 70-odd minutes of pre-recording my show this week. Partly because doing radio of any kind calms all the conflicting priorities in my mind, and partly because I find it extraordinarily soothing to have very loud good music in my headphones. And listening to music I myself have made in those headphones and realise it’s actually hit the mark makes me feel good, too. I hope all the artists I played this week feel that way about what they’re creating whether or not they gain big listenerships from it (and let’s face it, only the fewest will, because, like mainstream media, mainstream music has been hijacked by those with the most money and most persuasive voices rather than playing high-quality material).

Richard Pierce – Stand Up To Racism
Radio 1 piece (I played out a presenter from the BBC Asian Network talking about how love would prevail over the Far Right)
Jamie xx, The Avalanches – All You Children
Sunflower Thieves – How Was America
Pseudopomp – 23
Phantom Parts – checked & verified
Mt Misery – Lunch Break
Susy Wall – Dragonflies
Balderdasch – Gentleman Kill
Post Coal Prom Queen – Protomartyr (Radio Edit)
Heaven 17 – (We Don’t Need This) Fascist Groove Thang 2006 Remaster (1981)
Kate Dineen – Easier In Time
Saytr Play – 3 Heads
Mollyxo – Everything I Hate About Men
Bottlemoth – Tattoo
Boudicca’s Bass Service – Hiding
The None – Pigs Need Feeding
Richard Pierce – Stand Up To Racism

And there you go. LOts of amazing music, served up just for you. Now go listen, stream, buy. These artists (and many more like them) deserve to be supported and played.
