A phone call out of the blue,
A voice from the distant past,
One part of the jigsaw that had
Made this life different and better,
The voice which was always superior
At making speeches, back then, but it
Helped change the timbre of his own
Voice so that he, too, could make public
Proclamations which meant something to
More than just someone. And so one
Piece after the other of life drops
Away through old age and fades
Into the footnotes of the story
Until silence is content.
