Armistice

At the root of all language
Rests Latin, and there the real
Meaning of this word
Is hidden, and it is to
Stop fighting, lay down weapons
To make peace
In the world forever, so we
Can live how we are intended to
Eternally.

Should a silence mark this day
Of mourning for peace, or should
We be shouting our respect for
Freedom fighters from every misplaced
Memorial in all the cities around
This misshapen planet? What
Does armistice mean to the powerful?
It’s nothing more than a dog whistle now,
Its real meaning ignored, and the
Memory of the dead abused.
