Richard Pierce – author, poet, painter

We have tainted our faiths and freedoms
With thought and word and deed.
We have poisoned our world with moulded and molten lead.

We have tainted ourselves with the blood
Of those each and every one of us has murdered
Because we have hidden behind our scriptures.

Our gods are not vengeful.
Our bibles do not preach death.
Our prophets do not turn away from the camera.

We have tainted our faiths with fundamentalism,
And common sense with politics.
We give our freedoms away with the guns we fire.

We have abused our gods with government,
Have locked ourselves into a language no-one understands.
We have become tyrants of correctness

When all we do is wrong.
