Replete

Magpies are sages not thieves,
Graceful messengers of all life’s
Giving and taking, replete with
Wisdom and intelligence, the
Shape of the black and white
Phoenix burnished with the fire
Of creation and destruction in
One body of unfurled wings.

The story goes
They are the children of
A demon and a goddess,
Secret and forbidden,
Turned into birds by their
Remorseful parents, and
Named bad by their lies,
When the reality is
They inherited the
Best of both.

Ages old,
Sad eyes,
Hearts of gold.
