Ghost

Senility becomes him most of the time.
He forgets he’s a ghost, sits quietly at the
Breakfast table talking to her while she
Nods and drinks her cups of coffee.

Most simple trains of thought escape
Him, so he flickers in and out of the
Young woman’s vision, even when she
Tries to focus on him to remember
How he was before he left her.

Only when he’s lucid is the reality painful,
When he reaches out to touch her, to take
A breath of her breathtaking hair, and
Takes nothing, and the despair breaks him
Into a million disconnected minds.

And it all begins again.
