rescue

when time is unrolled
from its cardboard tube
the fabric of history revealed
as a flat plane
linear and fixed
documented and past
the edge the end of
that flat expanse
may be the days we’re living through
right now in 2023
there is no sense of
safety or rescue in
our world now not
from ourselves nor
from outside
no help about to arrive
to move humanity
or history
onto a safer track
into a mode that
could help it survive
we are on the final page
the last map inch
the finality
